Category: Cables & Converters

Audio converters are devices that convert audio files from one format to another. They are often used to convert music or video files into MP3, WAV, AAC, OGG, FLAC, etc.

The term converter comes from the original purpose of these devices. Back then, they were used to convert analog signals (like radio waves) into digital ones. Nowadays, however, they are mainly used to convert audio files between various formats.

There are two main types of converters: hardware and software. Hardware converters are standalone devices that require no computer to operate. Software converters, on the other hand, run on computers and require installation.

Most converters can be divided into three categories: lossless, lossy, and hybrid. Lossless means there's no data lost during conversion. Lossy means some data will be lost during the conversion process. Hybrid means both lossless and lossy options are available.

Lossless conversions are usually done with dedicated hardware. For example, you could use an external hard drive as your source device and an internal hard drive as your destination device. This way, you don't lose any information at all. It's also very fast because it doesn't need to read or write anything.

Lossy conversions are usually done using software. You'll have to install this program on your computer first before you start converting. The advantage of doing so is that you can choose which parts of the file you want to keep. If you're only interested in certain sections of the song, for instance, you can select them while converting.

Hybrid converters are usually done using software too. However, you won't have much control over what gets converted. This type of converter will automatically pick up whatever it thinks is most important.
